Goa Khabar: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has clarified that the Phase-I pay parking contract in Panaji has been extended till January 23, 2027, following a decision taken by the Corporation to compensate the contractor for periods during which pay-parking operations remained suspended.
The clarification comes amid questions raised over the continued collection of parking fees after the original contractual period.
According to the CCP Commissioner, the contractor had sought a refund of amounts paid to the Corporation during the COVID-19 lockdown as well as during other periods when pay-parking operations in the city were suspended.
The Commissioner explained that the contractor continued depositing the stipulated monthly instalments even during periods when vehicles were not being parked and no parking fees could be collected due to the suspension of pay-parking operations.
Corporation Opted for Extension Instead of Refund
The contractor’s request was subsequently placed before the Corporation for a decision.
According to the Commissioner, at its meeting held on December 2, 2025, the Corporation resolved not to refund the amount to the contractor. Instead, it decided to extend the contractual period, enabling the contractor to recover the amount through continued collection of parking fees.
“The Corporation at its meeting on 02.12.2025 resolved not to refund the money and instead to extend the contract so that the contractor recovers his amount through collection of fees,” the Commissioner stated.
As a result of the decision, Phase-I of the pay-parking contract has been extended until January 23, 2027, the Commissioner clarified.
The clarification effectively provides the CCP’s explanation for why pay-parking fee collection has continued beyond the original contract period, with the Corporation maintaining that the extension was approved as compensation for periods when parking-fee collection had remained suspended.
