~ Goa Through Sketches brings together original on-location works celebrating the state’s architecture, culture and everyday life~
~ The exhibition comprising 20 artists will be on display from August 15 to September 20, 2026
GoaKhabarYou’ve seen Goa enough on Instagram. Now here’s your opportunity to experience the coastal state through sketches created by local artists who have captured the state’s stunning vistas exactly as they found it. Goa Through Sketches, the debut exhibition by Urban Sketchers Goa, opens at Aguad Port & Jail Complex from August 15 to September 20 2026.
The exhibition brings together original pen, ink, watercolour and mixed media works, all created on locations across Goa. Every sketch has been drawn from direct observation, capturing everything from historic landmarks and bustling streets to quiet village lanes and coastal landscapes. Together, they offer an intimate portrait of Goa through the eyes of the people who live here and those who have taken the time to slow down and sketch it.
Commenting on the exhibition, Savio Mathias, VP Operations & Business Development, Aguad Port & Jail Complex, said, “At Aguad, we want our spaces to bring people closer to Goa’s history, culture, and creative spirit. We believe heritage sites can also be places where art, community, and meaningful conversations come together. We’re delighted to host Urban Sketchers Goa and provide a platform for their work. Their sketches capture the character of Goa through everyday scenes and historic landmarks, encouraging visitors to slow down, observe, and appreciate the stories that surround us. We hope this exhibition inspires both residents and visitors to experience Goa from a fresh perspective and connect more deeply with the places that make it so special.”
Urban Sketchers is a global community of artists united by a single principle: drawing on location produces art that is inseparable from its surroundings. Active in cities across six continents, the movement has found a particularly fertile home in Goa where the diversity of architectural styles, the quality of natural light and the rhythm of everyday life make for an unusually rich subject. This exhibition marks the first time Urban Sketchers Goa is presenting its work collectively and the first time the community is exhibiting within a heritage venue of this scale.
Talking about the exhibition, Darpana Athale, Representative, Urban Sketchers Goa, said,“Urban Sketchers Goa has been quietly documenting Goa through our sketches since 2017. Our community brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, each capturing a unique perspective of Goa’s history, architecture, culture and everyday life. Every sketch is drawn on location, creating a collective visual diary of the Goa we call home. Through this exhibition – Goa Through Sketches, we invite visitors to experience Goa through our eyes, and are delighted to present it at Aguad, where history, culture and art come together beautifully.”
The exhibition is open to the public during Aguad’s regular visiting hours from 10 am to 8 pm daily. Entry to the gallery is included with the admission ticket. Aguad Port & Jail Complex is located at Sinquerim and is accessible by road via Candolim.
