Viresh Borkar demands 20-day Goa Legislative Assembly session instead of 3 days

Goa Khabar : Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) National President and St. Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has strongly criticized the State Government’s decision to convene only a three-day session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, demanding that it be extended to 20 days in the interest of democracy and public accountability.

Addressing the media, Borkar stated that a three-day Assembly session is grossly inadequate to deliberate on the pressing issues affecting the people of Goa. He said the Assembly is the highest democratic institution where elected representatives are expected to raise public grievances, scrutinize government policies, and hold the executive accountable.

Borkar pointed out that Goa is currently facing several critical challenges, including rising unemployment, infrastructure deficiencies, environmental concerns, irregularities in land conversion, the electricity crisis, agriculture-related issues, and matters concerning education, healthcare, and tourism. He asserted that such important issues cannot be meaningfully discussed within a limited three-day session.

“The people of Goa have elected us to raise their concerns in the Assembly. Restricting the session to just three days undermines democratic values and denies legislators sufficient opportunity to debate matters of public importance,” Borkar said.

He urged the Government to convene a minimum 20-day Legislative Assembly session, allowing adequate time for detailed discussions, legislative business, policy debates, and effective oversight of the administration.

Borkar emphasized that extending the duration of the Assembly session would strengthen transparency, accountability, and democratic governance, ensuring that the voices of Goans are properly represented inside the House.
