Drisht Marine Lifesavers Rescue 11 Fishermen After Canoe Capsizes in Rough Seas off Majorda; Rescued Fishermen Safe and Sound

Goa Khabar : In a major rescue operation conducted by Drishti Marine lifesavers, eleven fishermen were saved from drowning after their fishing canoe capsized off Majorda beach on Sunday morning. The canoe had departed from Velsao earlier that morning and was returning to shore with the catch when its engine failed in rough sea conditions, causing a large wave to overturn the vessel and throw all 11 fishermen into the water. Drishti Marine lifesavers immediately initiated a coordinated rescue operation, with jet skis deployed from neighbouring beaches, namely Colva, Betalbatim and Arossim to assist. All the fishermen were wearing life jackets and were rescued safely.

One 50-year-old male fisherman from Odisha experienced breathing difficulties and was administered oxygen before being transported by a 108 ambulance to hospital for further treatment. He is reported to be in a stable condition. All other fishermen were rescued without injury.

Sea conditions along Goa’s coastline remain unsafe during the monsoon season, with strong winds and rough waters making swimming hazardous. As a result, swimming is prohibited off the state’s beaches. Drishti Marine has positioned more than 480 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across Goa’s major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to respond to emergencies and provide assistance to visitors to such areas.
