Drishti Marine Lifesavers rescue suicide-bound man off Calangute beach; trace two missing children over weekend

Goa Khabar : Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued a 22-year-old Margao-based man from attempting suicide off Calangute beach, even as the lifesavers also provided first aid to a 16-year-old girl who suffered an epileptic stroke at Betalbatim beach and traced two missing children in North Goa. 

Baga beach: A 24-year-old tourist from Jalna, Maharashtra, was rescued by on-duty Drishti Marine lifesavers after being caught in a rip current while swimming near the shoreline. The individual panicked after being pulled away by the current and was brought safely back to shore by lifesavers Ankur Chaudhary and Sujan Nagvekar using a rescue tube and rescue board. 

Calangute beach: A 22-year-old man from Margao was rescued by on-duty Drishti Marine lifesavers after drifting into deeper waters. Lifesavers Suraj Sawant and Vinod Lamani reached the individual using a rescue tube and safely brought him back to shore. The individual was found to be in distress and had headed into the deeper water in an attempt to commit suicide. He was subsequently handed over to the Goa Police after Drishti Marine personnel alerted emergency services. Meanwhile, two missing children were traced and reunited with their parents at Calangute beach by on-duty Drishti Marine personnel. In the first instance, a five-year-old boy from Maharashtra was located at the adjoining Baga beach by lifesaver Subham Paik, following a search and public announcements made by lifesaver Suraj Sawant. In the second, a two-year-old boy from Belagavi was found along the shoreline by lifesaver Manoj Manjhi and beach marshal Nilofer Usgaonkar. Both children were verified and handed over to their respective fathers in the presence of the Goa Police. In another incident at the same beach, two mobile phones belonging to a tourist were returned to their owner after being found by on-duty Drishti Marine personnel. Lifesaver Vinod Lamani recovered the phones while on patrol and, following verification, handed them over to the owner. Beach marshal Riya Chandekar assisted in the process. 

Betalbatim beach: A 16-year-old girl from Mumbai was assisted by on-duty Drishti Marine lifesavers after suffering an epileptic episode on the beach. Lifesavers Rameshwar and Ganesh attended to the girl and provided transportation assistance at the request of her family. She was escorted to the nearest road access point and advised to seek medical attention. She was stable at the time of assistance.
