Goa Khabar: Five persons, including three from Pune, were rescued from drowning by Drishti Marine lifesavers off Goa’s popular beaches over the long holiday weekend, which also saw two missing children reunited with their parents and one lost-and-found incident reported.

Baga beach: In a daring triple rescue, three tourists from Pune, Maharashtra, were rescued from drowning in the Baga river alongside the beach. The tourists, including a 44-year-old woman and a male and female teenager, were swimming in the river when a large wave made it difficult for them to return to shore. Drishti Marine lifesavers Siddesh Bhosle and Achchini Pamegam, using rescue boards, rushed to their aid and saved the trio from drowning.

Baga–Calangute beach stretch: Drishti Marine lifesavers responded to a missing child incident involving a 5-year-old boy from Wayanad, Kerala. The child, who went missing at Baga beach, was later located at the adjoining Calangute beach and safely reunited with his mother after due verification in the presence of Goa Police. Lifesavers Deepak Lamani (OJT), Ankur Choudhary and Nilfer Usgaonkar (BM) were involved in the search operation.

Sinquerim beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued a 30-year-old person who was pulled further into the sea by a rip current while wading in waist-deep water. On noticing his plight, lifesaver Ajay Gaonkar rushed to his rescue and assisted him using a rescue tube.

Colva beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers came to the assistance of a six-year-old girl from Ponda who was found crying on the popular South Goa beach. Lifesavers on duty initiated a search and made public announcements, following which the child’s family contacted the lifesaver team. The girl was handed over to her parents in the presence of Goa Police personnel after due identification. On the same beach, a Drishti Marine lifesaver supervisor found a lost mobile phone during patrol, which was handed over to personnel at the agency’s local lifesaver tower. The phone was later returned to its rightful owner after following due protocol with the assistance of the Goa Police.

Agonda beach: A 25-year-old man from Karnataka, who had visited the South Goa beach with a group of 20–25 tourists, was pulled into the waves while swimming, leading to panic. Unable to stay afloat, he signalled for help. Lifesaver Kapil Velip spotted his distress, rushed into the water using a rescue tube, and brought him safely back to shore.
