Drishti Marine Lifesavers rescue six from drowning off Goa Beaches

Goa Khabar : Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued six persons from drowning, traced four missing children and rendered medical assistance to one person who had cut his foot on broken glass litter, along Goa’s coastline over the weekend.

Ashwem beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers carried out a double rescue off Ashwem beach, saving two women from Pune, aged 23 and 24, from drowning. The two beachgoers had lost their balance in the water and required assistance to return safely to shore. Lifesaver Rajesh Dhuri participated in the double rescue operation. At the same beach, a 20-year-old man from Taleigao was rescued after being carried off by a flash rip current into deeper waters and was unable to return to shore. Noticing his plight, lifesavers Rahul Dalvi and Rohit Keluskar leapt to his rescue with a rescue board and a jet ski, respectively, and brought him safely ashore.

Calangute beach: A 27-year-old male from Hyderabad was rescued while swimming after getting caught in a strong rip current. Lifesavers Amir Gaonkar (RT) and Shubham Mukhiya (RB) responded immediately, deploying a rescue board and bringing him safely back to shore with assistance from fellow Lifesavers. The individual was assessed on site and found to be stable.

Baga beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers responded to a missing child incident involving a five-year-old girl from Karnataka who was separated from her family. She was located a short distance away and safely reunited with her father in the presence of authorities. Lifesavers Vinesh Mhalvankar and Nilu Usgaonkar were involved. 

At the same beach, lifesavers provided medical assistance to a 35-year-old man from Maharashtra who sustained a deep cut on his right foot after stepping on broken glass, causing heavy bleeding. The team administered first aid, including pressure dressing and antiseptic application and alerted 108 emergency services. The individual was handed over into the care of the trained ambulance staff on arrival by lifesaver Sajjan Mote. From January this year till date 10 persons have been injured due to glass litter strewn on the state’s beaches. Between January 2026 till date, a total of 10 glass litter-related injury incidents were reported on Goa’s beaches. Of these, three victims were foreign nationals while seven were from India. 

Colva beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers responded to two separate missing child incidents involving a four-year-old girl from Vasco and a five-year-old girl from Sanvordem, Goa. In both cases, the children were found by Lifesavers and brought to the tower, following which announcements were made to locate their families. Both handovers were carried out after due verification in the presence of police and beach authorities.

Betalbatim beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers carried out a double rescue involving two women aged 16 and 38 from Cortalim who began struggling in the water due to strong waves. Noticing their distress, lifesaver Omkar Dhuri responded immediately using a rescue tube and brought both individuals safely back to shore.

Hollant beach: Drishti Marine lifesavers responded to a missing child incident involving a five-year-old boy from Vasco, Goa, who was found alone in the water. Lifesavers safely brought him out and initiated a search for his parents. The child was reunited with his family following due verification.
