Goa Khabar : Five persons were rescued from drowning, three missing children were traced and two individuals were administered emergency first aid by Drishti Marine lifesavers along Goa’s coastline over the long holiday weekend. Beyond their lifesaving duties, personnel also apprehended a thief and successfully recovered a tourist’s missing mobile phone.

Ashwem  beach: A 37-year-old resident of Bengaluru was rescued from drowning after he drifted into a flash rip current while swimming. Noticing his plight, Drishti Marine lifesavers Rupesh Kerkar and Sudhir Parab rushed in with a rescue board and a jet ski, respectively, bringing him back to shore. Once ashore, however, the man faced breathing problems and was therefore administered oxygen for a brief period. After recovery, the victim was attended to by 108 medical professionals.

Morjim beach: Three men from Ludhiana, aged 24 to 25, were rescued after drifting into a rip current during low tide. Lifesavers Mahadev Gawde and Yogesh Gadekar quickly intervened using a rescue board and jet ski. All three were brought to shore safely.

Baga beach: A four-year-old boy was reported missing from Baga beach during the evening. Upon receiving the alert, lifesavers stationed at the beach initiated an immediate search operation. The child was located a short time later near the Baga tower by lifeguards Sandesh and Siddesh Bhosle, with support from the mobile jeep unit led by Sushant Gaonkar. The boy was reunited with his mother at the tower after following a strict verification protocol in the presence of the Goa Police and beach wardens.

Calangute beach: A seven-year-old girl from Karnataka was reported missing from Calangute beach. On being informed, lifesavers stationed at the beach started a search mission and traced the missing girl to the water sports area earmarked on the beach. She was handed over to her father after following verification protocol in the presence of the Goa Police. At the same beach, a four-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh was reported missing from Calangute and later located at Candolim by a coordinated search team. Lifesavers Suraj Bind, Suraj Sawant, and Vinod Gaonkar, along with Beach Marshal Raghunath Patil, traced the child across the beach stretch. The boy was safely reunited with his parents at the tower in the presence of the Goa Police.

Candolim beach: A 26-year-old man from Haryana was rescued after a lateral rip current pulled him away from the shore. Lifesaver Anand Khawnekar, identifying the victim as a weak swimmer, immediately intervened using a rescue tube (RT). The individual was brought back to safety and required no further medical attention. At the same beach, an 18-year-old from Bambolim received emergency care after sustaining a deep 1.5-inch cut to his left foot. Lifesaver Divaker Desai rendered initial first aid; however, due to persistent bleeding, the victim was evacuated to the Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) via a Drishti Marine official vehicle for further medical treatment. In another incident reported at Candolim, a 50-year-old woman from Bihar was provided medical assistance after suffering a suspected leg dislocation while walking on the shore. Unable to move, she signalled for help, prompting the lifesaver team to stabilise her. She was subsequently handed over to a 108 ambulance and transported to the Candolim Primary Health Centre for further treatment.

Bogmalo beach: A thief snatched a bag belonging to a foreign national and attempted to flee, but was pursued and apprehended by lifesaver Raju Chalwadi. Following the foot chase, the Goa Police and beach wardens were alerted. Both the suspect and the victim were subsequently taken to the police station for further legal proceedings.

Colva beach: A mobile phone lost by a tourist from Pune was recovered by beach marshals Anisha Tulaskar and Paresh Gaude. The team contacted the owner via the device and requested they visit the lifesaver tower for collection. The phone was successfully returned to the owner following verification in the presence of the Goa Police.
