Goa Khabar : In a major push toward a citizen-centric legal system, Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, IPS, inaugurated the Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition at Kala Academy on Wednesday. The event showcases India’s historic transition from the colonial-era “Dand” (punishment) system to a modern “Nyaya” (justice) framework.
Goa Ranks #1 in National Implementation
The exhibition highlighted Goa’s status as a national leader in legal reforms. Following the implementation of the new laws on July 1, 2024, Goa has achieved:
- 100% Administrative Readiness: Full integration across police, courts, prisons, and forensics.
- 92% Tech Adoption: Successful rollout of digital tools like e-Summons and the Nyaya Shruti app.
- Strong Conviction Rate: Maintaining a consistent 70% conviction rate in completed trials.
An Immersive Journey of Justice
The exhibition features 10 thematic stalls that guide visitors through the entire criminal justice process. Key highlights include:
- High-Tech Investigation: Demonstrations of the eSakshya app for crime scene documentation and mandatory forensic visits for serious crimes.
- Digital Connectivity: Showcasing how the MedLeaPR system links hospitals to the police for instant digital post-mortem reports.
- E-Prisons & Courts: Interactive displays on virtual court hearings, online bail processes, and time-bound judgments.
Key Reforms Highlighted
The new Nyaya Sanhita framework introduces several landmark changes aimed at speeding up the legal process:
- Zero FIR: Allowing citizens to file complaints at any police station regardless of jurisdiction.
- Digital Evidence: Recognition of electronic records and audio-visual proceedings as primary evidence.
- New Categories: Legal definitions for organized crime, terrorism, and snatching.
- Community Service: Introduction of reformative punishment for minor offenses.
DGP Alok Kumar emphasized that these reforms are designed to ensure justice is faster and more transparent. “We are moving from delay to delivery,” he stated, urging students and citizens to visit the stalls to better understand their rights.
