Geno began with greater control of possession and dictated the tempo in the opening passages. Yet the decisive moment arrived when Samuel Costa won the ball in midfield and quickly set Ivon Costa free, who finished calmly to give Sporting the lead.
The contest soon turned scrappy with challenges flying in, resulting in cautions for Geno’s Sarineo Fernandes and Sporting’s Samuel Costa before the interval.
Geno pushed forward with renewed purpose after the break and enjoyed long spells on the ball, probing for a way back into the match. However, Sporting’s backline held its shape and denied the hosts any clear opening as the pressure mounted. With the game drifting towards its conclusion, Mohammed Rafi K was also booked, and Sporting managed the closing minutes carefully to preserve their advantage and claim the points.
Meanwhile, in the relegation league fixture played at Tilak Maidan, Pax of Nagoa SC registered a narrow victory over Vasco SC with Adarsh Raj MR scoring the decisive goal late in the match to seal the win.
