Four rescued from drowning, four missing children located by Drishti Marine lifesavers along Goa coast on new year’s day

Goa Khabar : Four persons were rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers across Goa’s coastline on New Year’s Day even as the lifesavers administered first aid to a British national stung by a stingray off Mobor beach and a boy from Pune who cut his leg on a piece of glass at Palolem beach. Goa’s beaches witnessed large footfall on account of the year-end festivities. 

Arambol beach: A 19-year-old woman from Maharashtra was rescued after she faced difficulty while swimming in the sweet-water lake, adjoining the beach. Drishti Marine Lifesaver Anna Malekar used a rescue board to safely bring the victim to shore.

Baga beach: Two male tourists in their early-to-mid 20s from Karnataka were rescued after encountering difficulty while negotiating the sea while swimming. The rescue was carried out using a jet ski by lifesaver Umesh Madaikar, who brought both victims to safety ashore. At the same beach, a 20-year-old male tourist from Bihar was rescued after he was unable to swim back to the shore. Lifesaver Umesh Madaikar conducted the rescue using a jet ski and brought the victim safely to shore. An eight-year-old girl from Lucknow was also reported missing from the same beach on New Year’s Day. A search operation was initiated and the child was located by lifesaver Harichandra Nahvekar at another stretch of the beach. She was safely handed over to her guardians after confirmation.

Betalbatim beach: Parents of a four-year-old child reported their ward missing at Betalbatim beach, following which Drishti Marine lifesavers launched a co-ordinated search operation. The child was eventually found at another part of the beach following the search, which lasted around 30 minutes. She was safely handed over to her parents after confirmation.

Colva beach: A four-year-old boy from Margao was found wandering alone during routine beach patrolling. Drishti Marine lifesavers initiated a search for his parents and after approximately 30 minutes, the family was located. The child was safely handed over to them after proper verification.

Varca beach: A seven-year-old girl from Karnataka was found crying alone at Varca beach. Lifesavers contacted her father using a phone number she provided them. The child was handed over to her uncle after police verification.

Mobor beach: A 53-year-old male tourist from England sustained an injury after a stingray sting while swimming off the beach. Immediate first aid was provided at the nearby lifesaver tower, after which he was handed over to emergency medical services (108) for further treatment.

Palolem beach: A 10-year-old boy from Pune sustained a deep cut on his right leg while swimming after stepping on a piece of broken glass. Immediate first aid was administered at the lifesaver tower located on the beach. The child was stabilised and safely handed over to the care of his father.
