‘Karigar Bazaar’ (Artisans  Fair) opens in Panaji on Friday

Goa Khabar :  The popular Karigar Bazaar  (Artisans Fair) opened at the Panjim convention centre in Mala on Friday morning with the traditional lighting of the lamp. 

Shashin Rai, deputy director of Doordarshan Goa ( news) and his wife, Rajshri were the chief guests for the inauguration function. The Karigar Bazar will be open from 11am to 8pm everyday till November 22.

Organised by the Delhi based organisation, Craft and Artisans Revival, this week-long event will see as many as 80 rural artisans from over 20 states of India showcase their art and crafts for the people of Goa. This group  includes several, national award-winning crafts persons also.

The art and crafts on display includes intricate weaves and hand embroidery to traditional paintings, jewellery, pottery, and natural eco-crafts. Visitors can explore weaves and textiles like  Ajrakh, Chanderi, Maheshwari and Ikat, embroidery art like Chikankari, Phulkari, Kantha and Zardozi, tribal and folk art like Gond, Madhubani, Pattachitra, Pichwai and Warli, natural crafts like Sabai grass and golden grass weaving, moonj baskets and terracotta creations, jewellery like Meenakari, Kundan, lac bangles, and tribal ornaments and home products like brassware, incense, organic teas, handmade lamps, and carved artefacts.
