Goa Khabar : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa team led by Vice President Chetan Kamat and leader John Fernandes visited multiple flood-affected paddy fields in Saligao and Aldona today, where farmers are facing massive crop losses due to heavy rains and waterlogging.
Large stretches of farmland in the area remain submerged in knee-deep water, and farmers expressed deep frustration that no agriculture officer has visited their fields yet to assess the damage.
Chetan Kamat said, “Mere announcements won’t work — the government needs to speed up the process of giving compensation to farmers. This is the second consecutive year that fields have been destroyed, and a small compensation of ₹40,000 per hectare won’t be enough to cover the losses. Farmers need real help, not just sympathy.”
John Fernandes added, “These farmers are in despair. The government must give strict orders to the Agriculture Department and ensure that officers immediately visit the affected fields. The compensation process must be expedited — people’s livelihoods depend on it.”
AAP leaders also criticised the BJP government for its slow response and lack of seriousness, saying that farmers cannot wait for months for officials to take action while their crops rot in the fields.
The party demanded that the government immediately:
Deploy agriculture officers to assess the crop loss in every affected panchayat.
Increase compensation beyond ₹40,000 per hectare to meet real damage costs.
Release relief funds within 30 days to ensure timely recovery for farmers.
Chetan Kamat concluded, “Farmers are the backbone of Goa’s food security. The government’s delay is destroying their morale and their future. AAP stands firmly with the farmers of Goa — we will continue to fight until every farmer receives fair and timely compensation.”
