Goa Khabar : The Aam Aadmi Party’s #BJPCheBurak campaign began in Porvorim and later spread across all talukas and constituencies in Goa. The condition of the roads here was deplorable, despite it being an important route for traffic. This prompted over one lakh Goans to join the campaign. As a result of this public pressure, the government has now finally started road repair works, informed AAP Organisation Secretary Shrikrishna Parab, AAP Leader Chetan Kamat, and AAP Youth Wing President Rohan Naik during a Facebook Live from the damaged Porvorim–Giri road.
AAP Organisation Secretary Shrikrishna Parab said, “As a political party, we’ve always raised our voice. But when the people of Goa spoke up together, the government had no option but to act. Under public pressure, they gave a 15-day assurance and issued more than 40 tenders. Now, we will closely monitor every project and have given a stern warning to the PWD Minister, engineers, contractors, and officials passing bills — poor-quality work will not be tolerated. Everyone remembers that an ambulance was forced to turn back on this very road due to its condition.”
Parab personally inspected the ongoing road work and criticised the thin layer of asphalt being used. He said, “Such a thin layer will not withstand heavy vehicles. It’s unclear if another layer will be added. Perhaps this is only a base coat, and a stronger top layer will follow — I hope so. But if the government plans to stop after this, it would be disgraceful and shameful. Then it would mean the government is doing this only to line its pockets. If that’s the case, we will use the Right to Information Act to expose every detail publicly.”
AAP Leader Chetan Kamat added, “This is the main route for heavy vehicles entering the capital, Panaji. After citizens and AAP raised their voices, the government finally began road repairs in Porvorim. The first layer has been laid, but we have no idea how many more layers will follow. The bitumen being used appears to be of poor quality and will not last even five years. Still, the government has at least started work under public pressure, and we thank all citizens who fearlessly joined the #BJPCheBurak campaign. The quality of work will be evident soon.”
AAP Youth President Rohan Naik said, “After AAP’s #BJPCheBurak campaign, the government was forced to wake up and start work in Porvorim. But from what we see, this looks like a superficial fix meant to silence citizens. We are watching closely and will ensure accountability.”
The Aam Aadmi Party concluded by demanding that the BJP government stop the corrupt practice of taking 20%, 30%, or 40% cuts in contracts and instead ensure high-quality roads for Goans. The party reaffirmed that it will inspect all road projects across the state, and if standards are not met, AAP will bring all responsible officials and contractors to the site and expose them before the entire state via live broadcast.
