Goa Khabar : In addition to strong statements condemning the assault on activist Rama Kankonkar, the Aam Aadmi Party took the fight for justice to the streets of the capital city today.

Hundreds of Goans responded to the call given by AAP MLA Capt Venzy Viegas to attend a public protest at Azad Maidan in Panaji. Activists as well as MLAs and other elected representatives and prominent citizens joined the protest which saw an outpouring of anger and frustration against the BJP Govt’s complete failure on the issue of law & order.

The protestors refused to settle for lip service from the PI and SP, and for many hours they demanded to meet with the CM and DGP. The protest moved from the Police HQ to the BJP office, then to the Panjim Church and ended with a “rasta roko” at the new Patto Bridge until finally the meeting with the CM was confirmed.

“The CM was probably waiting for the protest to fizzle out after Azad Maidan. But today he realised the unpopularity of his Govt, when people refused to budge. After many hours, he finally had to give in and meet the delegation of MLAs and activists. He was also forced to visit GMC and meet Rama and his family”, Viegas stated.

Viegas & Palekar were manhandled and even injured during confrontation with the police personnel who were stopping them from marching towards the CM’s residence.

“Not only should the perpetrators of the attack remain in jail and not get out on bail, we also want that the political mastermind behind this attack is exposed and faces justice”, Palekar demanded.

The top leadership of AAP attended and spearheaded the protest, including MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas, State President Adv. Amit Palekar, ZP Joseph Pimenta, Working Presidents Valmiki Naik and Gerson Gomes, General Secretary Adv. Surel Tilve, Vice-Presidents Roque Mascarenhas, Sunil Signapurkar and Adv. Sunil Loran, and General Secretary (Campaign) Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai.
