Goa Khabar : In the wake of a disturbing incident in Talaulim, St. Andre, MLA Viresh Borkar has called for immediate and stringent reforms in the tenant verification process, highlighting a major gap in the current system that lacks criminal background checks.

The incident, which brought to light the inadequacies of relying solely on Aadhaar details for tenant identification, has raised serious concerns over public safety and the potential misuse of rented properties.

Speaking to the media, MLA Borkar said, “I have raised this concern with the police and all relevant departments. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has assured prompt action. I strongly urge the immediate establishment of a dedicated cell specializing in tenant verification. This unit must conduct comprehensive checks, including mandatory criminal background screenings, to ensure the safety of our communities and prevent wrongful usage of rented premises.”

MLA Borkar emphasized that he would continue to press for robust mechanisms to be put in place, not only for the residents of St. Andre but across the state. He underscored the urgent need to upgrade the verification process to safeguard citizens and prevent potential threats from slipping through administrative cracks.

The proposed dedicated tenant verification cell, if implemented, is expected to work closely with police and local authorities to strengthen security and accountability in the rental housing sector.
