Goa Khabar : St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, marked the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2025 with an impactful awareness programme aimed at sensitizing students about the dangers of drug abuse, tobacco, and alcohol.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and ignorance. The event was graced by former DIG (Goa Police) Mr. Bosco George as the Chief Guest. Also present on the occasion were Principal Angelica Fernandes, Manager Fr. Jerard Sahayaraj, NSS Program Officer Mr. Amarnath Panjikar, YRC Counsellor Ms. Nathalie Proenca, along with other teachers and staff.
In his keynote address, Mr. Bosco George delivered a powerful PowerPoint presentation highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. He urged students to remain vigilant and to take strong individual decisions to stay away from such substances, emphasizing how addiction can destroy lives, families, and futures. His message was a strong call to youth to become ambassadors of a healthy and drug-free society.
On this occasion, Ms. Shrusti Haldankar and Master Lionel Godinho were formally installed as President and Vice-President of the PRAHARI CLUB of St Thomas HSS taking on leadership roles to promote discipline and social awareness.
The event began with a warm welcome by Teacher Nathalie Proenca, followed by the Anti-Drug Pledge administered by Mr. Amarnath Panjikar, reinforcing the commitment of the students to lead a substance-free life. Teacher Josephine Dsouza efficiently compered the programme, and Teacher Silvia Pereira proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest and all dignitaries for their presence and support.
On the occasion Ivan Dcruz along with students presented a song on ill effects of Drugs. Prizes and certificates were also awarded to the students who participated in poster competition on Anti Drugs Awareness.
The school reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing informed, responsible, and socially conscious citizens through such educational and awareness initiatives.
