Goa Khabar : Residents of Taleigao have raised strong objections against ongoing field filling activities allegedly carried out at a construction site linked to Rohit Monserrate, despite a show cause notice issued over a month ago.

The notice, dated May 2, 2025, had directed the removal of illegally dumped mud from the fields in Taleigao. However, locals claim no action has been taken, and the site continues to operate in defiance of environmental norms.

Complaint by Cecille Rodrigues

Environmental activist and local resident Cecille Rodrigues, who initially filed the complaint, has alleged that a mud pathway has been created from Morod to the site to facilitate the dumping of construction debris. She further claims that this is being carried out under the supervision of Panch member Sydney Barreto.

“This is a clear violation of environmental laws. Instead of protecting our village land, some elected representatives seem more interested in supporting powerful individuals,” Rodrigues said.

Residents’ Allegations

Misuse of Political Power: Locals accuse Panchayat members of shielding the Mayor of Panjim’s interests while ignoring the ecological damage in Taleigao.

Environmental Damage: The filling of agricultural fields threatens the local ecosystem and undermines the traditional livelihoods of farmers.

Failure of Governance: Residents have also criticized the ruling BJP for failing to uphold its promises and enforce legal action in such cases.

Demands for Immediate Action

Rodrigues and other concerned residents have called for urgent intervention by the authorities. Their key demands include:

Immediate halt of construction and dumping activities on the site.

A full investigation into the alleged misuse of power by elected representatives.

Concrete steps to protect agricultural land and prevent further environmental degradation.

Community Stands United

The Taleigao community has vowed to continue its fight to safeguard the village’s heritage and ecology. “We are not against development, but it must not come at the cost of our environment and future,” Rodrigues stated.
