400 runners take part in Goa River Marathon’s First Promo Run





Goa KHabar: Close to 400 runners participated in the first promotional run of the forthcoming, 10th Goa River Marathon (GRM) held at the Verna industrial estate on Sunday, August 11.

Participants included runners from the various running clubs of Goa, the Indian Navy and employees of the Verna based companies who took part in the 10km and 21km run categories.

The 10th GRM is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 17 this year and will be designated as a ‘Run for Green Goa’ and will be completely plastic free.

Extending the green theme to the promo run too, the Vasco Sports Club, organisers of the event dispensed water in paper cups along the route and the hot breakfast was served in plates made from arecanut leaves.

Each participant was presented with saplings of jamun and pomegranate at the finish line and Miguel Braganza, eminent organic plant promoter gave a talk on planting of saplings.

The other highlight included the presence of veteran marathon runner, Jaya Kulkarni (67), who despite poor health completed the 5km run and gave a pep talk to fellow runners.

Over the years, the GRM is becoming increasingly popular and sees participation from all over India and abroad.  The GRM helps bring business to the Goan tourism industry. The online promotion of the event has commenced and the total participation is expected to cross 10,000 nos. Registrations to the event can be done online at www.goarivermarathon.com.
