Panaji:The curtain raiser to the 37 th edition of the prestigious Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar festival
organised by Kala Academy Goa will be lifted on 3 rd November 2017. The festival will be held
on 3 rd , 4 th & 5 th November 2017 with the participation of a galaxy of top rated vocalists and
instrumentalists of India. The festival which is rated amongst the top 10 music festival of India
having glamour of its own, will be inaugurated by Shri. Govind Gaude, Hon’ble Minister for Art
& Culture, Govt of Goa & Chairman of Kala Academy Goa, on Friday, the 3 rd November 2017
at 5.45p.m at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy Complex, Panaji. All the

Prior to the inaugural function, the curtain raiser event of the festival, a Symposium on the topic
“Future of Indian Classical Music” will be held between 10.30 a.m to 1.30 p.m on 3 rd
November 2017 at the Black Box in which speakers/ experts of music namely Dr Arawind
Thatte, Dr. Shashank Maktedar, Dr .Chaitanya Kunte will participate and present their views in
the threadbare discussion session to be moderated by noted music critic Shri Mukund Sangoram.
After the inaugural function, Renowned vocalist Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar will present Classical Vocal
Concert at 6.00 p.m on 3 rd Nov.17. The first day’s session will conclude with Instrumental
jugalbandi Concert by Shri. Rakesh Chaurasia (Flute) and Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh (Saraswati
On 4 th November 2017, the 2 nd days session will begin at 10.30 a.m with Classical Vocal Concert
by Smt. Devaki Pandit Nambeear. The morning session will conclude with Instrumental
Jugalbandi concert to be presented by Pt. Yogesh Samsi (Tabla) &Shri. Vijay Natesan
(Mridangam). The afternoon session will begin at 4.30 pm with the Vocal Recital by local artist
Shri. Nilesh Shinde. Pt. Ajay Pohankar will present his classical vocal concert at 5.45 p.m. The
session will conclude with Surbahar Instrumental Concert at 7.30 pm by Ustad Irshad Khan.
On the concluding day i.e on 5 th Nov. Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar will present vocal concert at
10.30 am. The Sitar concert by Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan will begin at 12.00 noon. The
concluding session of the festival will begin at 4.30 pm with vocal recital by local artist Ms.
Komal Sane. Shri. Abhay Sopori will present Santoor concert at 5.45 pm. The festival will
conclude with the classical vocal concert at 7.30 pm by renowned vocalist Pt. M. Venkatesh

Suresh Talwalkar, Pt. Ramdas Palsule, Shri. Bharat Kamat, Shri. Satyajit Talwalkar, Shri.

New Delhi will cover the event for Dainik Bhaskar and Sahara group of dailies. Smt Shailaja
Khanna, New Delhi will write music preview & review in ‘Asian Age’/‘The Hindu’ (Delhi
edition) and Shri. Shashikant Chinchore, Pune who covers Sawai Gandharva Festival at Pune
will write review for Loksatta, besides Shri. Janardan Verlekar local music critic will cover the
event for local daily.
