Goa Khabar:Aashreya Naik and Suman Yadav fought their might in the final bout at the 3rd BFI Junior Women’s Boxing Championship that concluded today at Natinal Boxing Academy Rohtak Haryana.
Aashreya Naik who boxed in the 63 kg weight lost to her Haryana opponent Khushi by a 5:0 decision. Suman Yadav in the 50 kg category gave Rinku of Haryana a tough fight, but went down 5:0.
Jessica Karra who lost in the semi finals to Anjali of Punjab had to settle for a silver.
A team of six boxers participated in the nationals and Goa was ranked 6 in medal tally after Haryana topped the chart with 12 medals including gold. The team was led by Goa Boxing Association coach Lavania Kunchi and manager, parent, Dinesh Naik
“It’s heartening to see our Goan girls doing well. In fact the Association has been trying to make ends meet. If we had the support from the sports department like Haryana does, including diet and incentives, we would reach far ahead today. Nevertheless, we will keep trying hard”, said Secretary of Goa Danuska Da Gama.
