Panaji: The ninth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) which commenced in September will conclude on the 1st of December with the ‘Noite de Gastronomia e Musica 2017’ at Bay 15, Dona Paula.

Noite de Gastronomia e Musica’ (An Evening of Indo Portuguese cuisine and music) is a fitting celebration to conclude the cultural festivities spread over the last few weeks.

The gala event will witness a selection of traditional Portuguese, Indian and fusion cuisine crafted by Chef Rahul Gomes Pereira and Chef Kapil along with support from Margarida Tavora of Fernando’s Nostalgia to offer the people of Goa an extraordinary culinary experience. The specially created menu is designed to take guests through a culinary journey into the historical past of the two nations.

Chef Rahul Gomes Pereira, more popularly known as Chef Picu, at 26 years of age has had a series of exciting stints in some of the finest international kitchens. Currently Chef Rahul is the Executive Chef of Delhi based award-winning restaurant À Ta Maison and the soon-to-be launched Indian ‘fun-dining’ restaurant Jamun. Born in Goa, chef Rahul has worked and headed the kitchens of three of The Oberoi Groups flagship properties – The Oberoi New Delhi, The Oberoi Mumbai and The Oberoi Bangalore. He went on to independently head the Italian Restaurant at the Trident Hyderabad where he introduced a modern take on Italian cuisine and dabbled with molecular gastronomy to freshen the palette of some of the more rustic Italian dishes. Always wearing his signature smile and even more signature crocs, Chef Picu believes the kitchen is like a beach—where you soak up the sun, sip on some chilled beer and simply have fun.

Chef Kapil Muchandi, the Executive Chef at Bay 15 started off his career at the Cidade de Goa, eventually moving to the UK, before heading back to Goa. At Bay15 he heads the team of young and enthusiastic chefs.

Chef Rahul and Chef Kapil along with Margarida Tavora of Fernando’s Nostalgia have carefully planned a spread that includes Pastéis de bacalhau, Amêijoas à bulhão Pato and Chouriço Berliners and the delicious Pasteis de Nata. A salad bar with a selection of fresh salads and unlimited drinks await guests.

To set the ambience, an extraordinary line-up of musicians has been put together to offer an enjoyable musical experience. These include Efigenia, Omar, Selwyn and the Valentinos. A special fusion dance will also be part of the entertainment for the evening. The event has been supported by Heineken, Bay 15, Nostalgia and may other supporters who have come together to make this cultural evening special

Like the earlier editions this year too saw a celebration of Indian and Portuguese culture including art, cinema, music, cuisine, literature and more. The event is an effort to celebrate and appreciate the rich cultural flavours of the two nations.
