Panaji: Vivanta by Taj, Panaji ushered in the Festive Season with its
annual ‘Cake Mixing Ceremony’. The cake mixing ceremony is a centuries old tradition which
heralds the beginning of the merry season and this ritual is followed all over the world. At
Vivanta, the event was held with much pomp and gaiety to reflect the spirit of the season.
The ceremony was flagged off with a story behind this age-old ritual. A mix of hotel guests,
locals, children and the hotel team formed a part of the cake mixing troupe. Donned with
Christmas hats, gloves and aprons, the crowd enthusiastically partook in the cake mixing
process. This year, the hotel mixed a colossal spread of assorted nuts, rich dry fruits and spices
like cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg with generous amounts of liquors and spirits. Several
pairs of hands worked through the evening, mixing the colourful mass of nuts and fruits amidst
an aromatic and festive ambience accompanied with melodious carols. The cake mixture
included over 100 kilos of nuts and fruits which will be used in baking plum cakes and puddings,
a much sought after Christmas treat.
The key to a delectable and irresistible Christmas cake or pudding is a thorough mix which is
then left for fermentation until the festive season. The longer the mix is kept for, the tastier will
be the cakes and puddings. A selection of the finest Christmas goodies will be up for sale in
December only at Caramel!
